During the press conference, which covered a wide range of topics from Puerto Rico’s hurricane recovery to the Russia investigation to the ongoing NFL protests, Trump stressed that his and McConnell’s relationship was “very good” despite his repeated criticisms of the senator and news reports suggesting otherwise.

“Despite what we read, we’re probably now closer than ever before,” Trump insisted.
