MisterWives recently teamed up with Consequence to celebrate their single “Out of Your Mind” by inviting fans to go out of their own minds at a New York City rage room experience. Now, MisterWives fans everywhere have more to look forward to from the band, as they’ve today announced their fourth studio album, Nosebleeds. Ahead of its release on July 14th, the alt-pop group have shared the title track and its accompanying video, as well as a fresh Fall 2023 North American tour schedule (grab your tickets here).

The follow-up to 2020’s Superbloom, Nosebleeds will see MisterWives embracing a heavier sound after enduring the loss of a bandmate during the pandemic and vocalist Mandy Lee’s divorce. “The changes in my life are what caused the music to follow,” Lee tells Consequence. “It’s been incredibly liberating — both sonically and visually — to give ourselves permission to change, to grow, and to not feel stuck within the confines of what might be expected from us and what’s been our comfort zone. We are all multifaceted and never one thing and I hope that’s the biggest takeaway for anyone who has noticed the change.”

The title track was one of the first songs written for the album and backs Lee’s confident vocals with heavy guitars and pulsating synths as she learns self-acceptance. Watch the music video, directed by Jax Anderson, ahead. Pre-orders for Nosebleeds are going on now.

In support of Nosebleeds, MisterWives are headed out on a tour with Bishop Briggs kicking off on September 8th. It will make stops in New York City, Toronto, Chicago, Los Angeles, DC, and more before wrapping up on October 15th in Seattle. See the full itinerary below.

Tickets go on sale Friday, May 5th at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster. Once tickets are on sale, you can also find them at StubHub, where orders are 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s FanProtect program. StubHub is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

What inspired this change from technicolor indie pop to something angrier?

The changes in my life are what caused the music to follow which has always been my creative compass. While we’ve definitely had songs on previous records that could fall within the [“Out of Your Mind”] world, we’ve never led with that sound as a single and it felt important to start this album off as unapologetic, raw, and vulnerable as possible. It’s been incredibly liberating — both sonically and visually — to give ourselves permission to change, to grow, and to not feel stuck within the confines of what might be expected from us and what’s been our comfort zone. We are all multifaceted and never one thing and I hope that’s the biggest takeaway for anyone who has noticed the change.

How did the band adapt their established sound to this new direction, and as the frontperson, was there any “convincing” Mandy had to do to get the band on the same page?

Since we’ve started we’ve always been told by industry gatekeepers the classic- “they don’t know where to place us because our music never stayed in one lane”. I’m thankful we’ve always had that mentality of not limiting ourselves because it made songs like “Out of Your Mind” feel incredibly organic and not a forced change of direction. There was no convincing or a sitdown conversation trying to get everyone on board — just a collective excitement and support on the scream therapy. The only pushback we had was the noise complaints from the neighbors when recording this song.

Can fans expect the new sound to be at the forefront of your next album, or will there be a blend of new and old?

I think you’ll always take older parts with you to create new so there’s definitely a balance within the music but I feel the album as a whole, all moves forward and doesn’t look back trying to recreate the past.

Why did you decide to bring fans into this rage room experience with you as a way to celebrate the lead single — beyond the fact that it reflects the music video?

Right before starting the album, I was in an incredibly dark space as a result of one too many punches of loss and betrayal I was really struggling to work through. Will and Et surprised me on my doorstep after flying across the country for a day and planned to lift my spirits, first stop on the itinerary was a rage room. This day genuinely was a turning point for healing and moving forward by realizing how supported I was and unlocking how much-repressed pain I had to let go of. Of course, the rage room mirrors the music video but we wanted fans to also have this cathartic release of letting the rage out in a positive and fun environment. It all feels very full circle getting to celebrate the beginning of this album the way we started it.

What was it like getting to take out some of that “sacred anger” in the room with this lucky group of fans?

I hope everyone had as much fun as we did but weren’t as sore as we were! I had a stiff neck for a week. We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate OOYM than by getting to abandon the normal day to day and letting out the emotions we often store in our bodies that sometimes need a good ol’ fashion primal scream or smashing of a computer with a baseball bat. I was definitely proud of everyone for letting down their guard and letting themselves rage.

Can you recall a particularly exciting moment from the rage room experience? Was there a particular smashing that had everyone cheering or laughing or gasping?

Start to finish the day was the most exciting and celebratory getting to reunite with a community that always brings the best energy. A highlight was playing some of the album for everyone as well as watching people go from maybe being a little shy and reserved to full-on raging. The before and after photos sum up the day perfectly. We were also impressed with the detective work, some people figured out the album title from the little clues we left in the rage room which we can’t wait to share so very soon!
