On Tuesday (Nov. 14), Busta Rhymes took to Instagram to deliver a heartfelt message to a newly minted Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and fellow hip hop peer. “This is an appreciation post, a congratulatory post and an incredible acknowledgment that I think is absolutely necessary to be made right now,” he began in a short video. “I had to make the time to really big up my sister Missy ‘Misdemeanor’ Elliott.”

He continued, “You are an icon, you are a genius, you are a brilliant mind, you are a source of one of my greatest inspirations. It’s beautiful that you have pulled from me as a source for great inspiration as well. I think we pull from each other so much, that’s why we call each other twin. There ain’t enough words that could truly describe how proud of you I am. How happy for you I am.”

On Wednesday (Nov. 15), Elliott reposted Busta’s clip with a profound response of her own.

“This post brought tears to my eyes. The fact that you even took the time out of your schedule to do this, I am honored,” she expressed. “I’ve learned so much from you visually, and musically, and [through your] knowledge. I remember my first album, I asked you to be on it. I was so scared you would say, ‘Nah, ma, you not hot enough.’ But you said YES. And you have always supported and protected me since that day!”

Earlier this month, Elliott was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame by Queen Latifah. In her acceptance speech, the Virginia icon thanked the pioneers who pushed the culture. “I have to say Pepa, who is here, from Salt-N-Pepa, her and Queen Latifah, [MC] Lyte, Roxanne Shanté, so many, Monie [Love], all those ones before me gave me their shoulders to stand on,” she stated.
