It tells the story of Tony and Emily who were traveling to France for a holiday with their young son. Their world turns upside down when amidst a car breakage they lose their child. All their attempts to find him fail and eventually the family falls apart not being able to recover from the grief. While Emily can heal and move on with her life after the divorce, Tony is unable to look past the trauma of losing their son. Season 1 premiered in 2014 and consisted of eight episides.

James Nesbitt plays the role of Tony Hughes while Frances O’Connor plays Emily Hughes. Other notable actors in the series include Tchéky Karyo, Jason Flemyng, Ken Stott, Diana Quick, Arsher Ali, Titus De Voogdt, and Saïd Taghmaoui.
