Missing Hiker in New Jersey Found Safe After Being Seen on Ring Camera: 'A Positive Resolution'

A hiker who disappeared in New Jersey over the weekend has been found safe thanks in part to a homeowner's Ring camera, authorities said.

The woman went out for a hike in Ringwood State Park near Skylands Manor on Sunday, the Ringewood Police Department said in a Facebook post.

She has been identified as 63-year-old Carol Heimbach, according to the Asbury Park Press, CBS affiliate WCBS-TV and News 12 Hudson Valley.

When Heimbach, who frequently hikes the state park and is even a volunteer there, was unavailable by 10 p.m. local time, her family called police, the paper reported. A search then began around 1 a.m.

According to WCBS-TV, at least 10 teams searched the area overnight into Monday morning. The Ringwood Police Department shared her photo on Facebook.

Eventually, Heimbach was seen on a Ring camera on Monday, News 12 Hudson Valley, WCBS-TV and ABC affiliate WABC-TV reported.

A homeowner in Sloatsburg — which is about 5 miles from the state park — was reviewing his Ring doorbell camera footage when he spotted Heimbach, per News 12 Hudson Valley.

New Jersey State Park Police Chief George Fedorczyk credited the homeowner, who then contacted authorities, WCBS-TV reported.

"This individual obviously took the time, recognized, was aware of the situation and appropriately called the authorities to where we can get this to a positive resolution," he told the station.

PEOPLE has reached out to the New Jersey Park Police for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

Heimbach suffered no apparent injuries, though she was disoriented after she spent a night in the woods, according to News 12 Hudson Valley and WCBS-TV.

It's unclear what led the woman to go missing, but WCBS-TV reported that investigators believe she left her phone in her car when she began her hike.
