A video uploaded to social media on Monday shows former NFL player Sergio Brown, who'd been declared missing by authorities, making bizarre claims about "fake news" two days after his mother was discovered dead.

The video was posted on the Instagram story of an account with the username “intplayerwithapassport."

On Saturday, police discovered the body of his 73-year-old mother Myrtle Brown in Maywood, Ill., according to CBS. Natalia Derevyanna, a office spokesperson for the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, tells PEOPLE that she died as a result of "multiple injuries due to assault" and that her death has been ruled as homicide.

Myrtle was pronounced dead on Saturday, Derevyanna says. She did not provide any further details on the nature of the victim's injuries. In the video, Brown begins by repeatedly saying “fake news.”

While he doesn’t explicitly refer to his mother’s death in the video, Brown says “it has to be the FBI.” He then claims that the bureau paid him an “unwarranted” visit on “Bob Marley’s death day.”

He pauses, looks up, and goes on to claim the Maywood Police Department “kidnapped” him on two occasions.

He then claims he thought Myrtle was “on vacation,” and that “it had to be the FBI or Maywood PD,” without explicitly stating what the “it” refers to.

PEOPLE was not able to independently verify the owner of the Instagram account, which had posts going as far back as 2021 and featured photographs of Brown. It was not followed by, nor does it follow, the account of the former player's brother Nick Brown, who is a mutual follower on Brown's official account.

Nick had rallied on social media to help search for the pair, and shared a photo on his Facebook and Instagram stories of his mother early Tuesday morning.

“I’m going to keep on pushing and won’t let you down,” he wrote alongside the photo, which he shared about 12 hours after Brown posted his video.

The Maywood Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comments.
