A missing dog from Hutchinson, Minnesota, is on the mend after accidentally getting high on pot brownies.

Earlier this week, the pup — named Dozer — escaped his owner Jake Carrigan's garage while he was at work, Pet Poison Helpline said in a news release shared with PEOPLE.

Carrigan received a text message from his brother during his shift, asking if Dozer had gotten out of the house because he saw someone posted a picture of a lost dog on Facebook that looked just like the pup.

After driving to the location where the dog had been seen, Carrigan said he couldn’t find him. Having to return to his job, he asked his neighbor to open his garage in case the dog returned home. The neighbor agreed, and went to search for Dozer himself. That's when he found the canine unable to move.

“When I found him, he couldn’t walk,” Carrigan said. “He bit at my hand when I went to pick him up, which he would never normally do. I knew there was something wrong, so I immediately took him to our veterinarian.”

After arriving at Lifelong Veterinary Clinic, Dozer was unable to move his rear limbs and was dull and hypersensitive.

"Abdominal x-rays revealed that the stomach was full, so the medical team induced emesis and found about a pound and a half of what they determined was chocolate brownies that contained marijuana," Dr. Renee Schmid, a senior veterinary toxicologist at Pet Poison Helpline, said, per the release.

Alongside the marijuana, the medical team at the clinic was also concerned about chocolate poisoning.

“The severity of chocolate poisoning varies greatly depending on the type and amount of chocolate ingested and the size of the pet,” Dr. Schmid said.

Currently, Dozer is on the mend and recovering after the pot brownie incident.

“The veterinarian told me that after they emptied his stomach, the entire clinic smelled like a marijuana dispensary,” Carrigan said with a laugh, per the release.

Calling the ordeal with his canine companion "weird," he continued, "I don’t know if he snuck into someone’s house, or if someone fed him the brownies."

"Maybe they were cooling outside, and he helped himself," the dog dad added, noting that he inquired with one neighbor if they were his desserts that Dozer got a hold of.

"I asked my neighbor who I suspect might indulge in such brownies, and he said they didn’t come from his house," Carrigan said.
