Miss USA and Miss Universe Debunk Pageant Myths

On Sunday, reigning Miss Universe Paulina Vega will pass the crown to one of this year’s 80 deserving contestants. But she will take with her a lot of memories, including a visit to Yahoo TV alongside reigning Miss USA Olivia Jordan, who also happens to be her roommate.

First, we asked the two to debunk or confirm various pageant myths, i.e. that contestants put Vaseline on their teeth, use double-stick tape to keep their bikini bottoms in place during the swimsuit competition, and have access to a “crying room” if they don’t make the cut. Their answers are both honest and hilarious.

Next, we had them quiz each other with questions from past Miss Universe pageants. For instance, from 1969: “In the next day or so, a man will land on the moon. If a man from the moon landed in your hometown, what would you do to entertain him?” A lot of charming high-fives happen.

The three-hour 2015 Miss Universe will be hosted by Steve Harvey, live from Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The judges include Scream Queens’ Niecy Nash, 2012 Miss Universe Olivia Culpo, football legend Emmitt Smith, Perez Hilton, and at-home viewers who, for the first time, will be able to score each contestant on a scale of one to 10 in swimsuit, evening gown, and interview. To vote, visit www.MISSUNIVERSE.com/vote via any desktop or mobile device during the live telecast. Viewers can also submit a final question through Facebook which will be asked to one contestant.

Performers include Seal, The Band Perry and Charlie Puth.

2015 Miss Universe airs live Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. ET (tape-delayed PT) on Fox.
