Miriam Silverman, Emily Arancio, Nestor Carbonell & Holland Taylor Board Indie Drama ‘Motherland’ From MPI Original Films

EXCLUSIVE: Miriam Silverman (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), newcomer Emily Arancio, Nestor Carbonell (The Morning Show), and Holland Taylor (The Chair) have been set to star in Motherland, an indie drama from MPI Original Films that has entered production in New York under an interim agreement.

Silverman leads the cast as Cora, who forms a protective bond with her estranged daughter Zinnia (Arancio) in an alternate present society where parents are forbidden from knowing or raising their children. Evan Matthews (The Teleios Act) is directing from a script by Nicole Swinford. Summer Crockett Moore, Tony Glazer, Lana Link, and Rob Pfaltzgraff are producing alongside executive producer Nick Reid.

Silverman is coming off Tony and Drama Desk Award wins for her turn on Broadway in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window, opposite Oscar Isaac and Rachel Brosnahan. Recently seen on the film side in Bleecker Street’s true-life veteran thriller Breaking with John Boyega, the actress has also appeared in Prime Video’s Emmy-winning comedy The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, as well as its Dead Ringers miniseries, based on the film by David Cronenberg. Additional TV credits include FX/Hulu’s acclaimed, divorce-themed drama Fleishman Is in Trouble, based on creator Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s same-name novel, as well as The Blacklist (NBC) and Blue Bloods (CBS).

Arancio makes her feature debut in Motherland after earning an MFA in acting from the University of Southern California.

Currently starring opposite Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon on Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, which is approaching the end of its third season, Carbonell is otherwise best known for prominent roles on the popular A&E series Bates Motel and ABC’s Lost. Also coming up for the actor is the FX/Hulu series Shōgun, based on the James Clavell bestseller, which premieres in February 2024.

An Emmy winner currently starring alongside Carbonell on The Morning Show, Taylor has also been seen of late on shows like Billions, The Chair and Hollywood. She can also currently be seen in 20th/Hulu’s feature comedy Quiz Lady, starring Awkafina and Sandra Oh. Other recent film credits include Bill & Ted Face the Music and To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.

Recent projects from MPI Original Films, a subsidiary of the production company and talent incubator Moving Picture Institute, include the drama Miss Virginia starring Orange Is the New Black‘s Uzo Aduba and the true-life dramedy Pinball: The Man Who Saved the Game, starring West Side Story‘s Mike Faist and Teen Wolf‘s Crystal Reed.

Silverman is represented by Paradigm and Untitled Entertainment; Arancio by Principal Entertainment; Carbonell by Thruline Entertainment, Independent Artist Group, and Felker Toczek Suddleson; and Taylor by Gersh and Sendroff & Baruch.
