Miranda Lambert talks about overcoming body image issues: ‘I wasn’t happy about the way I looked’

Miranda Lambert is gearing up to take the stage at the 2019 Country Music Awards on Wednesday night and is doing her best to make sure her insecurities don’t get in the way.

In her December cover story with Health magazine, the 36-year-old country singer talked about how her life has evolved since her 2015 divorce from Blake Shelton, and she wanted to reflect on the changes she’s experienced on her new album, Wildcard. But aside from moving on from the public breakup and finding new love with Brendan McLoughlin, an NYPD officer who she married in January 2019, Lambert has also found newfound confidence in herself and her body.

“There was a time when I wasn’t happy about the way I looked,” Lambert told the magazine. “I’ve been all sizes. My whole life, I’ve struggled with ups and downs in weight. I’m only 5'4" so weight shows quickly on me.”

And although her struggle with body image was a personal one, the singer-songwriter acknowledges that it’s difficult to deal with when you’re in the public eye. Lambert even admitted that insecurities can serve as a distraction during big career moments.

“I don’t like being onstage worrying about my body,” she explained. “That’s the last thing I want to be thinking about. I don’t give my best performance when I’m distracted by my insecurities.”

Fortunately, it’s something that she won’t be thinking about on Wednesday night.

“I’ve hit a comfortable place; this is pretty much my size,” Lambert said. “I’m a size 6, give or take five pounds, depending on the day. It’s so good to find your place.”

Her weight isn’t the only aspect where she’s found her place. Instead, the newlywed told the publication that even though she’s gotten comfortable with spending time in New York City, where her husband is from, she is her “truest self” when she’s at the farm.

“My farm just outside of Nashville is where I find my center. Honestly, I feel my prettiest when I have on a ball cap, no makeup, and cutoff jeans, and I’m at my farm just with dirt and dogs all around me,” she said. “That’s where I feel my truest self.”
