Mipcom: U.K. And Brazil Lead the Pack of 2017 International Emmy Kids Nominees

CANNES — The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences has announced the 2017 International Emmy Kids Awards nominees.

The pool of contenders is drawn from 16 different countries, and the winners will receive their awards at April MipTV in Cannes. Leading the pack are Brazil and the U.K. with four nominations each, followed by Germany and Japan with three.

In the category of Kids: Series, Germany is represented by “Club der Roten Baender” (Red Bracelets) – a teen hospital drama about friendship helping characters get through medical hardships, produced by Bantry Bay Productions for RTL network VOX; and “Jamie Johnson” – the story of a 12-year old footballer with big dreams comes from the U.K., produced by Short Film Company for CBBC.

Boutique Films and Discovery Kids Latin America’s “O Zoo da Zu” turns on an otherwise normal girl with her own zoo; rounding out the category, Singapore’s time traveling program “Shahrukh & Warsan” is produced by The Big Shots LLP for the MediaCorp Suria Channel.

The nominees for Kids: Preschool are Dandelooo’s “La Cabane à Histoires” (The Treehouse Stories) – a literature focused series from France; and Japan’s NKH series “Design Ah!” – a Peabody Award-winning educational program focused on design concepts. Brazil pulls another nomination with Supertoons-produced “O Diário de Mika” (Mika’s Diary) – the adventures of a four-year-old learning about the world; and Netflix’s Irish series “Puffin Rock” from Cartoon Saloon, Dog Ears and Penguin.

For animated series, the nominees are Singapore’s Disney Channel series “Oddbods,” focusing on the misadventures of seven crazy friends; U.K.’s “ Revolting Rhymes,” an animated adaptation of Roald Dahl’s short stories produced by Magic Light Pictures; Argentina’s Latin America co-produced “Siesta Z,” the story of an introverted narcoleptic; and finally “Trudes Tier” (Trude’s Flatmate) from Germany’s Studio Soi, about the adventures of Trude and the strange creature that lives in her apartment.

Via a statement, Bruce L. Paisner, president & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said: “The Academy is proud to be the preeminent platform for showcasing and recognizing the remarkable wealth and geographic spread of quality kids programming produced around the world.
