Mipcom: BBC’s ‘What Not to Wear’ Heads to Mexico, All3media Delivers ‘Rellik,’ and ‘Neanderthals’ Leave Germany and Head East

CANNES — Since premiering for BBC Worldwide in 2001, “What Not to Wear,” has been an international phenomenon among makeover shows. Now it’s time for the format to get an update of its own as Discovery Home and Health Latin America have announced that an updated version is being produced for the Mexican market.

The Mexican update represents the tenth version of the BAFTA-nominated format. In the show, two hosts help hapless dressers, nominated by their friends and family, to update their look and improve their confidence. After the hosts help them learn what not to wear, participants ditch their current wardrobe and are given a large budget with which to replace it.

The original version ran for seven years on BBC One, aired for 14 in Russia on CTC and was TLC’s longest running primetime series, at 10 years, in the U.S. The show is currently running on Discovery Realtime in Italy and SBT in Brazil.

Sumi Connock, Creative Director, BBC Worldwide said via a press release: “‘What Not to Wear’ has proven time and again that it’s a format that will never go out of fashion and I’m very much looking forward to seeing its Mexican makeover.”
