Minnie Driver is looking back at experiencing heartbreak during a major Oscars moment.

Back in 1998, the star attended the Academy Awards with her Good Will Hunting cast and crew as her Best Supporting Actress nomination was among the film's nine total nods.

In October, the Movie Shmood Instagram account shared throwback footage of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck winning Best Original Screenplay at the ceremony, Driver reacted in the comment section remarking about her facial reaction in the audience.

"My face 😂😂😂😂❤️," she wrote.

Driver, now 53, also responded to a fan who noted that "Minnie looks so sad," in a comment captured and shared by the Comments By Celebs page,

She wrote that ex-boyfriend and costar Damon, now 53, had recently broken up with her, making the celebratory moment bittersweet. (A rep for Damon didn't immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.)

"Matt had ended our relationship a few weeks before this, and was at the Oscars with his new gf... I was devastated," she wrote. "Wish I could have celebrated more as it was an amazing moment for all of us, and for this wonderful film!"

Though she didn't name the new girlfriend — and Damon and Affleck both took their mothers as their official plus-ones to the Oscars that year — Damon and Winona Ryder had been photographed leaving a Miramax pre-Oscars party the day before. He and Ryder dated from 1998 until 2000.

Driver has previously opened up about her split with Damon, who is now married to wife Luciana Barroso.

She told Entertainment Tonight last year that when their romance fizzled leading up to awards season that year (culminating in Damon famously announcing that he was single on The Oprah Winfrey Show, to Driver's apparent surprise) it led to a "surreal" experience.

"I don't care who you are, that is agony and it's like a strange, surreal dream," Driver said of having to deal with a public breakup at the time. "But I know he didn't put that picture there. It's so tricky, because it's not deliberate, he couldn't have helped how famous he became and how his life was being picked over, in the same way that mine was."

Added Driver, "It's funny now, when I think about walking down the magazine aisle in my local supermarket at midnight with my best friend, we were like, 'Are you seeing this? This is super weird.' My friend, Alexandra was like, 'Oh my God, I can't believe this is happening, like, I feel like we're in a movie. I would totally watch this movie, even though I know you're super heartbroken, but this is really weird.' "

Driver marked her anniversary with her partner, filmmaker Addison O'Dea, last month.

"It’s our anniversary today. Five years filled with laughter, grief, creativity and becoming our little tribe of 4 (counting Bob) Here we are on our first formal date, which was a v. glam affair, and you made me laugh so much I spilt a seam in this beautiful dress. Slide 2 is how we really are: happy, eating, by the sea. Love you @addisonodea."
