Even the Minions are mesmerized by the wonders — and horrors — of artificial intelligence (AI)!

In a new commercial promoting Despicable Me 4, which PEOPLE can exclusively reveal before it airs during Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday evening, the lovable characters from the Illumination and Universal Pictures franchise craft silly images using AI.

"Artificial intelligence is changing the way we see the world, showing us what we never thought possible, transforming the way we do business, and bringing family and friends closer together," a voiceover, done by Jon Hamm, states at the opening of the clip, as various AI-generated images — including one of Steve Carell and Will Ferrell in royal attire — flash onscreen.

"With artificial intelligence, the future is in good hands," the voiceover concludes, before two Minions characters are seen cheering over their AI photographs in a large office-like space filled with other Minions doing the same.

The clip then ends with a callout announcing that a trailer for Despicable Me 4, which is due to hit theaters later this year, is now available to watch.

Despicable Me 4 is the latest entry in the long-running Despicable Me and Minions animated comedy franchise. It will serve as the sequel to 2017's Despicable Me 3.

The forthcoming features Gru as he, his wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig) and their adoptive daughters Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnes (Madison Polan) "welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his dad," according to an official synopsis.

"Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to go on the run," the synopsis continues.

Aside from Ferrell and Vergara, new additions to Despicable Me 4's voice cast also include Joey KingStephen Colbert and Saturday Night Live's Chloe Fineman.

The White Lotus creator Mike White co-wrote Despicable Me 4's screenplay with Ken Daurio, who has written each of the series' four movies.

The new entry comes roughly two years after Minions: Rise of Gru, a spinoff of the main Despicable Me series, made $369 million at the domestic box office and was the sixth-highest-grossing movie of 2022.
