Mina Starsiak Hawk has had a challenging few weeks. She was the victim of identity theft, and then had her purse and social security card stolen

The trouble began when she was mailed a Bank of America credit card with the name of her store, Two Chicks District Co., on it and discovered that someone had opened the account using the store’s tax identification number, she reveals in the latest episode of her podcast, Mina AF.

The star of HGTV's Good Bones then received a statement with about 60 fraudulent transactions.

"Whoever this hustler is, they got 60 people to Venmo this account money,” she says. “And it’s so sad because some of the Venmos were like ‘Venmo for puppy,’ ‘Venmo for food.’ Like, someone thought that they were getting a puppy and they just got swindled using my store’s tax ID number.”

When Starsiak Hawk contacted the bank, she was asked to bring in copies of personal documents including her driver’s license, social security card and proof of address.

“I do all that, and before I leave, I ask the guy, I’m like, ‘Can you shred all this stuff before I go?’” she explains. “And he says, ‘Just hold on to it for, like, another week or so because you might need it.’”

But in another unfortunate turn of events, her purse — still containing the documents — was stolen soon after through the open window of her car

She and her husband Steve Hawk were meeting at their therapist’s house for a session, and had driven there separately, she recounts. As Steve walked up to her car, she was working on her laptop and rolled down the window to greet him. When she put her computer away and got out, she forgot to close the window.

“No one even had to break into my car,” she admits. “They just had to walk by it and grab my bag that had all of my credit cards, my laptop that has all of my passwords saved in it, because struggle bus and I just auto-save them, I mean everything.”

She later realized that her stolen bag still contained a copy of her social security card.

“I just broke the eff down on the highway driving up to the store because I was like, ‘Oh my God, how stupid could I be,’” she says.

Mina shared that it’s hard to shake off thoughts like, “If I had done things right to begin with, that wouldn’t happen. The Bank of America fraud wouldn’t have happened if I had proper fraud protection.”

Despite the major set back, she is plowing ahead with new projects, including recently opening Two Chicks’ online store.

“I’ve gotten up every morning this week at 5 a.m.,” she says. “I’ve worked out every morning at 6. And I’m in the store every day trying to make it as amazing as possible so it has the best chance of success.”

“I’m up in my little podcast space every week recording, trying to do something that’s meaningful for you guys,” adds Mina, who has two children with Steve: 5-year-old son Jack and 3-year-old daughter Charlie. “I’m trying to be a good mom. I’m trying. And I guess the point of today’s episode is, no risk, no reward.”

Mina revealed to PEOPLE in December that she’s looking forward to  "a nice fresh start" as she’s planning to reopen her recently closed Indianapolis store in nearby Noblesville, Indiana.

Mina and Steve are even looking at homes to renovate there, following the end of her long running HGTV series Good Bones last fall.

“There's so many cool Queen Anne Victorians,” she said. “There was one that I kind of had my eye on that's like a block off the square that's just a mess, which is perfect to me.”
