Milwaukee's first self-serve taproom and a new Walker's Point bar set to open in September

In September some new spots will be coming to Milwaukee's dining and nightlife scene. That includes Milwaukee's first self-pour taproom, Walker's Point's newest LGBTQ+ bar, and a new cafe and hookah lounge on the south side.

Here are three new bars and restaurants coming to Milwaukee, in order of when they open.

A longtime vacant space at 124 W. National Ave. will soon become a bar and brunch spot named Pop.

Pop

124 W. National Ave., Sept. 8

Pop is Milwaukee's newest LGBTQ+ bar and restaurant in Walker's Point. It will be home to "Ru Paul's Drag Race" watch parties and pop music.

The bar's opening was postponed from an August opening due to a delay in inspections, but with the final inspection complete, they are ready for a grand opening weekend starting Sept. 8.

The bar will first open to the public on Friday, followed by drag brunch on Saturday and a Packers watch party on Sunday.

The bar will have pop-star themed cocktails named after stars like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift. It will also host themed nights with 80s or 90s songs and music videos and parties. Drag brunch, hosted by Milwaukee drag queen Ramona, and Green Bay Packers watch parties also will be a regular occurrence at the bar.

Avli

1818 N. Hubbard St., Sept. 20

A Chicago-area chain restaurant specializing in regional Greek cuisine is opening in the former View MKE space in Brewers Hill.

The two-level restaurant space is known for its views of downtown Milwaukee and its patio. It is the only Avli location outside of the Chicago area.

They will serve small plates, salads, spreads, and authentic Greek entrees and desserts.

Red Sun Cafe

4350 S. 27th St.; Mid-September

Red Sun Cafe is bringing a half lunch-time cafe, half nightlife spot to the Southpoint neighborhood. They plan to serve crepes and deli sandwiches during the day, and offer hookah, Japanese beer and cocktails at night.

"The mission is to bring the fun vibes of the Third Ward closer to our neighborhood. The 15-minute drive gets a little longer each time," owner Touly Vang told the Journal Sentinel in April.

An extended brunch menu will include waffles and pancakes, and an after-hours menu will have appetizers, pizza and more.

Red Sun Cafe will also have a small stage for local performers.

The City Fountain

275 W. Wisconsin Ave.; Late September

Milwaukee's first self-serve taproom is coming to the 3rd St. Market Hall, bringing 24 rotating taps to the space.

The City Fountain, which is taking the place of the former Selfie Museum, will have 20 picnic tables and stadium seating around at 15-foot projector screen.

Customers will get a card when they arrive to keep a tab of the beers they pour. They can pour anywhere from a few sips of a beer they want to try to a full pint or two of their favorite brew.
