Stranger Things' Millie Bobby Brown splits kneecap, will miss MTV Movie & TV Awards

Don’t expect any Eleven sightings at Monday’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Millie Bobby Brown, who stars as the Eggo-loving heroine on Netflix’s Stranger Things, revealed to fans on Instagram Friday that she’s split her kneecap, marking her first-ever broken bone. As a result, the 14-year-old actress is at home resting up and won’t be attending the awards ceremony.

The breakout series is nominated for a total of seven awards this year, including one for Brown’s performance and another for Best Kiss (shared between her and co-star Finn Wolfhard). Luckily, the rest of the Stranger Things crew — Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Sadie Sink (Max), and Noah Schnapp (Will) — will be on hand to accept any awards on the show’s behalf.

Brown won the Best Actor in a Show trophy at last year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, meaning she could be a back-to-back winner if she triumphs in her category this year.

News of her injury comes days after Brown quit Twitter after being made the subject of a variety of homophobic memes. Sometimes posted along with the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown, they falsely attributed hateful LGBTQ comments and quotes to her, leading the actress to delete her account. Brown does have a second verified Twitter account, @Milliestopshate. Though it hasn’t seen activity since December 2017, her social media bio reads: “I want this account to share love and positivity. Let’s stop bullying.”
