Millie Bobby Brown spent Thanksgiving with Jake Bongiovi's family

Thanksgiving was all that Millie Bobby Brown imagined it would be.

The Stranger Things actress, 19, spent the holiday with her fiancé Jake Bongiovi, 21, and his family.

“Obviously I'm British, so I don't celebrate Thanksgiving, but of course Jake's family are American, so they were able to introduce me to what a real American Thanksgiving looked like,” Brown told PEOPLE in New York City at a pop-up event for her coffee brand Florence by Mills Coffee.

Bongiovi's parents are Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley; and he has three siblings, Stephanie, Jesse and Romeo.

“Jake's mom's cooking was amazing, so I really got introduced to a really great Thanksgiving [with a] wonderful family,” says Brown.

The actress was impressed by the polarizing main course. “I really went into it thinking, ‘Turkey's turkey, how good can it be?’ but Jake's mom made the best roast turkey,” the coffee maven says of the “pretty unbelievable” dish.

She adds, “I felt like I was totally living my all-American dream.”

Brown and Bongiovi announced their engagement on Instagram in April and this marks their first holiday season as fiancés. And while the pair had a lovely Thanksgiving, Brown has been looking forward to Christmas for months.

“I feel like Christmas is my holiday. It's just where I thrive,” she says, adding proudly that her decorations go up before Halloween. “Jake's very much against that, but who cares?”

The star is traveling throughout the holidays because “there's lots of family to see all over the place” but made time between Thanksgiving and Christmas to go to a pop-up event for her new coffee brand, Florence by Mills Coffee.

The FBMC Experience is held in New York City from Dec. 1 through Dec. 6 and celebrates the beverage line. There, fans can try the products, which range from coffee concentrate and beans, hot chocolate mix and flavored syrups, and learn about the ethical practices of the brand (all the while in a pastel-colored, Instagram-friendly space).

Hurley and Bon Jovi have expressed their support for the young couple’s relationship, most recently when Brown was awarded with the first-ever global honoree for Glamour Woman of the Year award.

"I'm here tonight to present an extraordinary award an extraordinary human, Millie Bobby Brown," Hurley said during her speech at the event in New York City. "Millie has been a force of nature pretty much since birth."

"The Millie I know is sweet, sensitive, loving, smart and beautiful," she continued. "But the thing that's most special to me is she loves my wonderful son Jake. Soon she will be my daughter-in-law, and I couldn't be happier or more proud."

Brown accepted the award by thanking her future mother-in-law for the kind words. She said: "Dorothea has raised her son, my fiancé, to feel comfortable around strong women, to see women as equals and to be an ally. I'm so lucky to know you."
