MTV Movie & TV Awards 2018: Millie Bobby Brown delivers anti-bullying speech

Millie Bobby Brown had a message for bullies when she won the Best Performance award for her work in Stranger Things 2 at the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

The Stranger Things actress’ powerful speech comes just days after she quit Twitter because of cyber bullying. Many Twitter users made her the subject of several homophobic memes, which attributed hateful comments to her and were often shared with the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown. She has a second verified account @Milliestopshate, which hasn’t been updated since December.

“To all my fans, I really wish I could be there with you all to receive this award, but sadly, I’m stuck here in Atlanta recovering from a small injury and I’m following the doctor’s orders to rest,” she said. “I want you to know how grateful I am to those who support me. It’s no secret that landing the role of Eleven in Stranger Things has changed my life in the most incredible ways. It’s afforded me the chance to work with remarkable people, especially the Duffers, Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, Iain Patterson, and Netflix, and all of the cast members.”
