Miley Cyrus Unwittingly Caused a ‘Kerfluffle’ Between Brooke Shields & Her Daughter on ‘Hannah Montana’

Most kids only dream of visiting the set of their favorite Disney series, but Brooke Shields’ daughter Rowan, now 21, got to live it! Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite what she expected. The Pretty Baby alum revealed how a past visit to the Hannah Montana set — and an interaction with star Miley Cyrus! — caused a “kerfuffle” between Shields and Rowan.

In 2007, Shields guest-starred on an episode of Hannah Montana as Hannah’s mom. “Hannah was my baby girl,” Shields told PEOPLE on Monday about the character played by Cyrus.

“So, oh God, my daughter loved the show,” she went on. “We brought her to a taping and I failed to explain to her that when I called her [Cyrus)] ‘baby girl’ she wasn’t being replaced by this girl that she was on stage.” Oh no! That would be so traumatizing to see your mom loving on someone else right in front of you, especially for someone who was only about 4 years old at the time.

“It created a little bit of a kerfuffle, so to speak,” Shields jokingly added. Luckily, the “Flowers” singer jumped in to help correct everything. The Mother of the Bride star told the outlet, “Miley invited my daughter down to the stage and said, ‘This is just pretend, thank you for letting me borrow your mama.’ You know, it was really sweet.”

Cyrus isn’t the only one looking after Shields’ girls. In 2022, The Blue Lagoon star shared some advice that she gives her daughters Rowan and Grier, 18, who she shares with husband Chris Henchy, about their futures. “I always say, make sure that you find a vocation that you absolutely love, and do it the hardest, work the hardest at it,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “Start wherever you’re allowed to, wherever you’re invited and work as hard as you can. No job is too small and stay focused on what you love and what you want to do.”

Shields recently celebrated her eldest daughter’s 21^st birthday. “Happy 21st birthday to you, Rowan! 🎉🥂. You continue to inspire me everyday, I’m so so proud of you. Love you, bug ❤️🐞” she wrote on Instagram.

Rowan may be all grown up, but you can tell how much she still loves her mama!
