Miley Cyrus Has Trademarked 'Bandit' and 'Bardot'

Bandit and Bardot Coming To a Concert Hall Near You?

Miley Cyrus may be forming a band called "Bandit and Bardot"; at least that's what music news outlets are speculating.Rolling Stone writes that Smiley Miley, Inc., has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the name Bandit and Bardot.

It was filed Dec. 1 and includes, in part:

“entertainment services, namely, live musical performances by a musical band; entertainment services, namely, live performances by professional singer, musician, and entertainer [and] entertainment, namely, live music concerts.”

Just the Facts

Another part of the application includes trademarks for:

“musical sound recordings; musical video recordings; pre-recorded CDs, DVDs, audio discs, video discs, and other recorded media featuring music; downloadable audio recordings and downloadable video recordings featuring music; downloadable multimedia files featuring music; Audio and video recordings featuring music, concerts, and entertainment; downloadable ring tones for mobile devices; software applications for mobile devices featuring music and entertainment [and] cases for phones and electronic devices.”

The language is fairly mundane, but that's law for you.

Rolling Stone spoke with Josh Gerben of Gerben Law Firm about the news.

According to Gerben, the language in the application points to Cyrus' intent to name a band.

“If a client directs us to prepare and file a trademark application for the name of a band, this is exactly the type of language we would use in the trademark application."

“The language used in Miley’s trademark application strongly suggests that she is intending to use Bandit and Bardot as the name of a band," Gerben said.

Sounds Like Intent To Us

Rolling Stone adds that when someone files an application with the U.S. patent office, they must state actual intent to do whatever it is they're planning to do.

According to Gerben:

“The trademark application was filed based on an ‘intent to use’ the Bandit and Bardot trademark. The attorney that submitted the application signed a sworn statement that Miley’s company has a ‘bona fide intent to use’ this trademark in connection with the items listed in the application.”

They Obviously Admire Each Other

Bandit and Bardot may include Simpson and her new beau Cody Simpson. There's an Instagram page with the purported band's name, with zero posts and more than 2,000 followers already. The page follows only Cyrus and Simpson.

Cyrus and Simpson have known each other for a long time, but only recently hooked up. Of Simpson, Cyrus says: “He’s a super fucking cool guy and an epic guitar player and singer."

She's even collaborated with him on the cover art for his single "Flower" back in 2015, so they have plenty of history.

Given they're both musicians who circle the same genres and style of music, it seems more and more plausible that the two are forming a group called Bandit and Bardot.
