Miley Cyrus stands by her vow to avoid the red carpet

Miley Cyrus is sticking to her vow to never walk a red carpet again.

Earlier in the week, The Voice coach stated in an interview for Elle’s October issue that she was done posing on red carpets, citing poverty and starvation as reasons.

“[A year ago] I had to do the [A Very Murray Christmas] premiere, and I will never do a red carpet again,” she said. “Why, when people are starving, am I on a carpet that’s red? Because I’m ‘important’? Because I’m ‘famous’?” She added, “that’s not how I roll. It’s like a skit – it’s like Zoolander.”

And on Friday morning’s TODAY show, the singer promised she’s standing by her statement. Sitting down with Carson Daly and Savannah Guthrie to discuss her new Woody Allen series, Crisis in Six Scenes, and her competitive attitude and passion towards her role on The Voice, she also expounded on her decision to steer clear of the carpet.

“It’s really not about the color of the carpet,” she explained. “It’s more about, especially women, we get yelled at to blow them a kiss, and I don’t feel like blowing you a kiss.”

“[The photographers] yell, ‘Blow us a kiss!’ Like what is going on? Who are you? And then you’re just kind of putting yourself out there for people to talk about. I don’t want people to talk about what I’m wearing. That’s usually why I don’t wear too much, but they make me wear clothes on The Voice and on the TODAY show, so this is what I chose.”

Part of that outfit she had chosen was what appears to be an engagement ring, but the “Wrecking Ball” singer coyly deflected any comment on its significance.

The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesdays on NBC at 8 PM ET.
