Miley Cyrus Celebrates Godmother Dolly Parton's Birthday
Mileygirl has nothing but love for her godmother Dolly Parton, and we can't stop thinking about it. The country music legend turned 74 on Sunday, January 19th.
The Bangerz singer took to Instagram last night to provide a hilarious impression from her appearance on The Tonight Show in 2017. It's actually more of an "impersonation" than it is an interpretation if that makes sense - an impression can usually carry a negative connotation, and this was anything but that. Cyrus' post has already gathered almost 1.5 million likes.

"Happy Birthday Aunt Dolly!!!!!" Miley wrote in her caption.
The three-part post begins with two Boomerang videos. The first shows Miley in front a makeup mirror (makeup included), and the second shows...well, just see for yourself. The third video, though, is an actual video, and it's what's got everyone talking (again).
Her previously mentioned appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was actually a three-night residency. The starlet and the host teamed up to recreate one of Parton's most memorable performances.
Fallon and Cyrus delivered an incredibly convincing cover of Kenny Roger's and Dolly Parton's 1983 duet hit "Islands in the Stream" on October 4, 2017. Cyrus' throwback Instagram post last night actually places the two performances side-by-side.
(Technically Miley stacked the videos, with hers on top and Dolly's on the bottom, but it's all the same.)
Famed actress Hilary Swank was one of the first to comment, saying to Miley: "Your voice is absolutely stunning 💫"
There's nothing like stars supporting other stars.
And Parton has always been one to support her goddaughter.
Cyrus, born Destiny Hope Cyrus (but is legally still Miley Ray Hemsworth), has never known a life a part from Dolly, even though their godmother/daughter relationship didn't become a public matter until 2013. The reveal came when Dolly was being interviewed by Anderson Cooper.
""[I told Billy Ray], I don't know if I'll be around to where I can actually do all the duties that a godmother does," she said. "So let me be her fairy godmother."
In response to one of Miley's more controversial eras: "If you think I'm going to sit here and pass judgement on Miley, you're wrong," Parton told Access Hollywood in a since-removed interview. "She's precious. I love her and I have nothing but wonderful things to wish for her and wonderful things to say about her."
In a 2012 interview with Parade, Dolly was asked what advice she had for Miley. "I remember myself at her age. We’ve all been a bit too hard on her," Parton said. "I hope she holds it together because there’s a world of things she can do. She should keep an eye on things and make wise decisions."
Miley posted an additional birthday wish to Dolly on her Instagram story, which was later reposted by Dolly. We will always love Dolly and Miley's relationship.
