Miley Cyrus was 'too stoned' to remember lyrics in Bill Murray tribute performance
It’s always a “Party in the U.S.A” for Miley Cyrus until she forgets the lyrics.
The mishap occurred during Sunday night’s tribute to Bill Murray at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The comedian received the 19th annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, as fellow celebrities, including Steve Martin, Sigourney Weaver, Jimmy Kimmel and David Letterman, paid tribute with stories and anecdotes about his life.
Cyrus took to the stage later in the evening to perform a rendition of Frank Sinatra’s “My Way,” but filled with Murray-isms.
“I f—ed it up,” the singer said after losing track of the lyrics. She attempted to pull it together but finally succumbed to her mistake. “Sorry guys. I got too stoned,” she said.
According to the Associated Press, Murray was on the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s side, announcing from his seat, “This is happening right now in Washington, D.C., the 51st state of the union!” Cyrus performed the song once more for the recording, which will be the aired version during Friday’s special on PBS.
This marked the second tribute in one weekend for the singer, as she visited George Mason University in Virginia the day before to campaign for Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
