Bad Moms is a title that could be taken more than one way, so when Yahoo Movies chatted with some of the comedy’s cast, we asked what they mean. Basically, this movie’s “bad moms” are the type who defy the shaming and guilt trips that society puts on them, and while they might not be “perfect,” they’ll still do their best to raise good young people. “You’re a bad mom when you’re still trying,” said star Kristen Bell. “You’re a bad mom when you’re not trying at all.”

“Our movie, Bad Moms, is someone who stops trying to be perfect and doesn’t succumb to the judgment of other moms,” said Annie Mumolo, who stars as a mother who’s part of a clique best known for their shaming of other mothers. “It’s like me saying I have a food baby,” noted Christina Applegate, whose character is a member of that same clique. “It’s actually not a baby made of food. It’s not literal … that doesn’t even work.”

Bad Moms might focus on motherhood, but its stars did point out that dads have a lot of pressure on them too. “Clearly this movie is about the mothers,” said Mila Kunis, who stars as one of the titular bad moms. “But I think dads have it hard as well. My husband [Ashton Kutcher, but you probably knew that] works full time, multiple jobs, and I think what makes him a great partner is when he gets home, he is incredibly present.”

“We’d like to see a movie, Bad Dads, to get their take on it,” added Bell. “Because they don’t have the hormonal instincts that we get after having pushed it out. And that’s interesting to have to jump into a pool and figure out how to swim.”

Kathryn Hahn, who with Bell and Kunis is the third member of the trio of lead bad moms, had maybe a more unlikely hope for her husband. “I would say what would make a good partner is just a mind reader. That would be helpful, if he just knew what I was thinking.”
