Drummer Mikkey Dee has doubled down on his previous assertion: No Lemmy, no Motörhead.

After stating earlier this year that he and guitarist Phil Campbell — the remaining members of the band — would never tour under the Motörhead name again, Dee clarified his comments in a new interview with Chaoszine.

Although he said he will still continue to play Motörhead songs in other capacities, like his Mikkey Dee and Friends collective, performing as Motörhead with a replacement for late frontman Lemmy Kilmister is not an option.

“I said, ‘We will never, ever get back together and replace Lemmy. That’s impossible,'” said Dee, referring to his March interview. “I said, ‘But doing little constellations, doing some tribute stuff, that’s great.’ That’s very, very different. And I think [the press] said something, ‘Mikkey will never play Motörhead [songs] again.’ … I said that’s not what I said at all. Of course I will play Motörhead.”

Dee continued: “But I will never be a part of trying to put Motörhead as a band out there again with some other fucking idiot supposed to take Lemmy’s place. So that’s all I said. But to do [Mikkey Dee with Friends] — fantastic. And, of course, we’d like to plan something bigger than this [as a tribute to Lemmy] in the future, hopefully.”

So, it sounds like Dee hasn’t ruled out a more elaborate Motörhead tribute, even if a full-on posthumous reunion — a la a re-formed Pantera — is out of the question. That said, the drummer has been busy touring with German rock legends Scorpions, while Campbell is active with his solo project Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons.

“I mean, me and Phil wrote great music,” said Dee when asked about playing Motörhead songs alongside Campbell. “But he’s fully involved with his boys. And I’m fully involved with Scorpions. We’re touring a lot. Not right now, obviously, but we’re on the road all the time with the Scorps. So I don’t say no; there’s always possibilities.”
