Recreational marijuana became legal in California on Jan. 1, and former boxer Mike Tyson is leading the charge of new legal weed businesses in the state.

According to Gary Trock at The Blast, Tyson and his business partners Robert Hickman and Jay Strommen broke ground on what’s being called a marijuana ranch on Dec. 20. The 40-acre ranch is being built in California City, an area that’s expecting a major boom now that recreational marijuana is legal.

Tyson’s ranch will be a lot more than just a growing operation. The Blast says that there will be a plant supply store on the grounds, as well as an edibles factory, an extraction facility, an amphitheater and campgrounds and cabins for glamping (aka “glamour camping”). There will also be research done on how best to use and apply the healing properties of marijuana.

That’s a lot already, but it doesn’t even cover the growing. The ranch is dedicated to getting the community involved and teaching the next generation of growers.

We’re told Tyson Ranch will be dedicating 20 acres of their land for cultivation facilities that “will allow master growers to have maximum control of their environment.” There will also be a Tyson Cultivation School to teach growers the latest and greatest ways to perfect their own strains.

Beyond all of the research, teaching, growing and production that will happen at the ranch, there are even more benefits to the community Tyson Ranch will call home.

We’re told the company that operates the ranch, Tyson Holistic, is comprised mainly of veterans, and says taking care of men and women who have served in the armed forces is a top priority. The ranch is located near Edwards Air Force Base and aims at creating lots of jobs, as well as connect with and give back to the community.

There’s been no date given for the opening of the ranch, but when it does open, it looks like it’s going to be an incredible facility. Only one question remains: will Mike Tyson be selling his own brand of marijuana edibles? The world demands answers!
