The television show that chronicles Mike Epps and his TV-producer wife, Kyra Epps, rehabbing houses on the Indianapolis comedian’s childhood block will air next month.

HGTV will show the two-episode “Buying Back the Block” Nov. 8. The one-hour episodes will air back-to-back starting at 9 a.m.

“Indianapolis is home for me and there's nothing in the world like it. That's why I'm buying back my block,” Epps says in a promotional video.

The couple's goal is to “revitalize the struggling neighborhood and bring back the charm, community and character that Mike valued growing up,” according to HGTV.

“I bought my whole childhood block back … six homes that we actually got evicted from,” Mike Epps says in a promotional video.

Epps grew up near the intersection of 21st Street and Carrollton Avenue, according to previous IndyStar reporting. The star of the Netflix series "The Upshaws" — also set in Indianapolis — grew up in the area in the 1970s.

“It was about family and friends. It was about community. The memories were unforgettable,” Epps says in the promotional video. “After all the big movies, television, running around doing stand-up all over the world, Indy was calling.”

Houses and streets in the area have deteriorated over the decades, he noted.

“Me and my wife Kyra, we're on a mission to renovate these houses one at a time ... and to make sure people can afford them.”

After renovating their home, a former firehouse called Big Blue, the couple set about two other renovations over a 12-week period, including a house next door and a house they said belonged to Mike Epps' grandmother, said Kyra Epps, who has been supervising producer of “Iyanla, Fix My Life” and “The BET Social Awards.”

“This is so cool that we're able to give an opportunity for people to come back here,” Kyra Epps said.
