Mike D And Ad-Rock To Celebrate Hip-Hop 50 With Beastie Boys Square In New York

Beastie Boys members Mike D (Mike Diamond) and Ad-Rock (Adam Horovitz) plan to celebrate Hip-Hop 50 in a major way. On Wednesday (Sept. 6) the group announced Beastie Boys Square to be unveiled in New York City this Saturday.

Taking place at the corner of Ludlow & Rivington on the Lower East Side, the musicians will be joined by Council Member Christopher Marte and fellow New Yorkers at the site of the Paul’s Boutique album cover.

According to a social media post, the two-hour event will include a special guest DJ set, A-1 Records and Beastie Boys pop-up shops, live screen printing, and more.

Earlier this year, Ad-Rock shared plans to drop unreleased Beastie Boys material.

“We actually have a whole full album. I’m not even kidding…I can’t disclose, but I can tell you, with all honesty, there is a whole other album,” shared the 56-year-old.

“We have a bunch of rap songs also that never came out, but the bulk of it is stoner jams,” he continued. “I don’t know if the world … really needs that right now—but maybe they want it? I don’t know. They’re going to get it, at some point, because I’m going to put it out.”

Billboard reported the unveiling is accompanied by the cinema debut of the Apple Original film, Beastie Boys Story at the IFC Center. SiriusXM will also relaunch the Beastie Boys Channel.

According to the official description, the Beastie Boys Story documentary finds the two surviving band members sharing an intimate, personal narrative of their group and 40 years of friendship with each other and late member, MCA (Adam Yauch). The documentary experience is directed by their longtime friend and collaborator, filmmaker Spike Jonze.

Beastie Boys Story reunites the chart toppers with Jonze over 25 years after directing the music video for their hit single, “Sabotage.” Released on Apple TV in 2020, the feature is produced by Grammy Award-winner Jason Baum and Amanda Adelson, alongside Jonze.
