Mike Birbiglia has set his newest comedy special, “The Old Man and the Pool,” at Netflix. The hour-long set debuts on the streamer on Nov. 21.

Per the official logline, “The Old Man and the Pool” sees Birbiglia “take on life’s big questions: why are we here? What’s next? Exactly how much chlorine are they putting in the YMCA pool?” The show heads to Netflix after running on Broadway from Nov. 13, 2022 to Jan. 15 of this year, then in London’s West End from Sept. 12 to Oct. 7.

This marks Birbiglia’s fifth Netflix special, coming after 2008’s “What I Should Have Said Was Nothing,” 2013’s “My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend,” 2017’s “Thank God for Jokes” and 2019’s “The New One.” He is also known for writing, directing and starring in the 2012 film “Sleepwalk With Me” and the 2016 film “Don’t Thing Twice.” Birbiglia has held guest starring roles in series including “Orange Is the New Black,” “Billions” and “Human Resources,” and has appeared in the films “Your Sister’s Sister,” “The Fault in Our Stars” and “A Man Called Otto.”

“The Old Man and the Pool” is directed by Seth Barrish and executive produced by Mike and Joseph Birbiglia along with John Skidmore, Tony Hernandez, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, Patrick Catullo and Seaview.

The news of Birbiglia’s special comes on the tenth anniversary on Netflix’s first-ever comedy special, Aziz Ansari’s “Buried Alive.” Since then, the streamer has launched more than 350 stand-up specials, with highlights including “Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy” — the first-ever stand-up show at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium — and “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” — which became the most watched comedy special ever recorded by Nielsen.
