Mikaela Shiffrin became the youngest Olympic gold medalist in slalom skiing at 18 years old in 2014. While she's been crushing records, so has her fiancé, Norwegian alpine skier and 2020 World Cup champion Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

After three years of dating, the couple announced their engagement in April 2024.

They may be a couple of world champions, but they still do plenty of normal couple things: They love traveling and working out together, and they support each other through all their ups and downs.

At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Shiffrin lost control just seconds into her first run and fell, breaking her 30-race streak and disqualifying herself from becoming the first alpine ski racer from the United States to win three Olympic gold medals. A few days later, Shiffrin reposted a photo of herself on X (formerly Twitter) after her wipeout, first posted by the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team.

Over the picture was a message from Kilde: "When you look at this picture you can make up so many statements, meanings and thoughts. Most of you probably look at it saying: 'she has lost it', 'she can't handle the pressure' or 'what happened?' Which makes me frustrated, because all I see is a top athlete doing what a top athlete does! ... It's all about the balance and we are just normal human beings!! I love you Kaela."

In her repost, Shiffrin noted, "My hope for every human is that they find another human who finds a way to love, understand, and heal them in the way @AleksanderKilde has done and continues to for me."

Here's everything to know about the world-class skier and superstar support system that is Mikaela Shiffrin's fiancé, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.

Shiffrin isn't the only World Cup skier in the relationship. According to the International Ski Federation, Kilde has been skiing competitively since October 2012, when he made his World Cup debut at the age of 20. In 2013, he became the junior world champion in giant slalom.

Kilde landed his first World Cup podium in December 2015 and went on to win the World Cup overall title in 2020. In the 2022 Winter Olympics, Kilde won both a bronze and silver medal.

Kilde has been skiing for as long as he can remember. In 2021, he wrote an essay for the Owl Post about his history on the slopes. "I got my first pair of skis when I was just three years old and I immediately began to go up and down the hill opposite to our house," he said. "My earliest memories are of my whole family skiing with me, because snow was, and is, a source of joy for everyone."

He's Norwegian

Kilde hails from Bærum, a suburb of Oslo, Norway. Kilde represented his home country in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

In July 2022, Kilde posted a photo of himself on X with Shiffrin at the ESPYs. "Inspiring evening at the @ESPYS!!" he wrote. "Coming from little Norway it's incredible to see the power of sports and the positive impact it can give to the world."

A few months later, he spoke to Olympics.com about his career and their relationship. "We're having an amazing time together," he said. "What I find really cool is that we can share experiences and have conversations about things I can't really have with anyone else. She has a lot of experience; I have some experience and we can make each other better."

The pair also connect with each other off the slopes. "Also, you know, I like her as a person more than anything else. For me that she's a skier is just a bonus," Kilde continued. "I really enjoy spending time with her, and that's what I keep in mind. Anything else is just a bonus."

He's an impressive weightlifter

Kilde is known for his strength and weightlifting abilities, and he doesn't just work out alone. He trains with his Olympic medalist girlfriend and has shared their joint workouts on his Instagram.

The Associated Press called him "The Arnold Schwarzenegger of skiing" because of his ability to lift massive amounts of weight: He can reportedly bench press more than 300 pounds with a max squat of nearly 500. "He's the perfect athlete," Norway's trainer Daniel Tangen told the outlet.

When Shiffrin and Kilde aren't lifting weights together, they might be dancing, as seen in a video posted by Shiffrin.

Kilde is the face of Syngenta Group, a company focused on helping farmers and fighting climate change. The company provides technology for large- and small-scale farms to work more efficiently and sustainably.

The skiier became its ambassador in December 2020, citing a longtime interest in agriculture and the environment as the impetus for their relationship. "Today, I do not only see the amazing work which farmers do but I have also learned about the crucial contribution of sustainable agriculture to our society as a whole," he wrote.
