Mika Brzezinski Misses ‘Morning Joe’ for ‘Family Event’ One Day After Butt-Boy Remarks

Mika Brzezinski failed to appear on “Morning Joe” Thursday with co-host Joe Scarborough making sure to note at the top of the show that it was due to a pre-planned family event.

“Mika has the day with her family, a long planned family event,” Scarborough said. “She’s sorry she’s not here, cause we’re going to be talking about baseball most of the morning.”

“She’ll be back with us tomorrow,” he added, before moving on to introduce the usual show regulars. Scarborough really wanted to let “Morning Joe” viewers know about this family event — so much so that he mentioned it again in the show’s second hour.

Mika’s disappearance for this “family event,” however, comes just a day after she accused Mike Pompeo of being a “wannabe dictator’s butt-boy” to Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, after Pompeo defended Bin Salman during an appearance on “Fox & Friends.”

“Why doesn’t Mike Pompeo care right now?” Brzezinski asked. “Are the pathetic deflections that we just heard when he appeared on ‘Fox and Friends,’ is that a patriot speaking, or a wannabe dictator’s butt-boy? I’m dead serious. I’m asking, are these the words of a patriot?”

The term “butt-boy” is often taken as homophobic, as CNN political reporter Andrew Kaczynski explained on Twitter.

“Butt-boy is a homophobic slur, referring to act of anal sex. In this situation, Mika is implying that MBS is the top and that Mike Pompeo is the bottom,” Kaczynski said.

MSNBC declined to comment on the issue, but Mika issued a Twitter apology shortly after the show wrapped Wednesday.

“SUPER BAD choice of words .. I should have said “water boy”… like for football teams or something like that.. apologize to @SenatorDurbin too! SO SORRY!” she tweeted.

The criticism, however, continued to come in despite the walk-back.

“This is bad. Will require more from Brzezinski than a Twitterpology,” said NPR media reporter David Folkenflik. “This apology isn’t good enough. Not a simple oops moment. It’s deeply disturbing,” Fox & Friends meteorologist Janice Dean added.
