On Friday (Aug. 25), Miguel provided his fans with an intimate concert in Los Angeles, where he delivered live renditions of new music from his forthcoming LP, VISCERA. One of the more shocking moments came when the singer executed a back suspension, which is when a person is lifted into the air by hooks inserted into the actual flesh. In clips shared on social media, Miguel could be seen hanging above the stage in the midst of the extreme act.

After plenty of speculation across the internet, Miguel shared a couple of Instagram images on Monday (Aug. 28), including one that showed his back injuries from the hooks’ insertion. Another snap revealed a bloodied tank top that he wore for the rest of his set. “What is your relationship to pain? What is your relationship to change?” he asked his followers in the post’s description.

It’s been six years since the arrival of Miguel’s fourth studio LP, War & Leisure, a 12-song body of work with additional features from Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Kali Uchis, J. Cole, and Salaam Remi. The critically and commercially successful offering debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 and crossed the gold certification mark. A five-track EP, Te Lo Dije, was later released with Spanish-language versions of War & Leisure‘s most notable standouts.

Since then, Miguel remained on the radar via the fourth installment of his Art Dealer Chic series and singles like “R.A.N.,” “Python,” “Vote,” “VIOLENT DREAMS,” “Give It To Me,” and — earlier this month — the Lil Yachty-assisted “Number 9” (below). His unique range of vocals could also be heard on songs like Kygo’s “Remind Me To Forget,” GoldLink’s “Got Friends,” Meek Mill’s “Stay Woke,” Rich The Kid’s “Woah,” Alicia Keys’ “Show Me Love,” dvsn’s “He Said,” and Diplo’s “Don’t Forget My Love.”
