An enormous flock of migrating sandhill cranes filled the Nebraskan sky on the morning of March 23.
Nonprofit habitat maintenance group Crane Trust counted approximately 574,000 sandhill cranes in the Central Platte River Valley area two days earlier.
This year, the group offered virtual migration tours for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minnesota nature photographer Carol Bauer traveled to Nebraska to see the colossal migration for herself. “People come from all over to witness this phenomenon. It was quite a sight to see,” Bauer told Storyful. Credit: Carol Bauer via Storyful
