'A Midsummer Night's Dream' to be performed by AFTLS at DeBartolo Performing Arts Center
SOUTH BEND — Actors From The London Stage presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 to 26 at the University of Notre Dame’s DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.
Written between 1590 and 1596, “Midsummer” surrounds the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, and Hippolyta, the Queen of the Amazons, but most of the action takes place in a nearby forest, where the king and queen of the Fairies, Oberon and Titania, are engaged in an argument.
Ultimately, that argument causes four young Athenian lovers to become confused because of the misapplied use of a magical potion by Puck, Oberon's mischievous court jester.
Meanwhile, a bumbling theatrical troupe, led by the indefatigable Nick Bottom, prepares for an all- important performance before the Duke and his new queen.
Founded in 1975, AFTLS is based in the United States at Notre Dame and tours the country in the fall and spring with a self-directed cast of five actors who all play multiple roles. The productions rely on few props and minimal costumes and sets.
This tour’s cast includes Natasha Bain, Anna Crichlow, Sam Hill, Lucy Reynolds and Michael Wagg.
Tickets are $25-$15.
