UPDATED 2:30 p.m. ET FRIDAY

Michigan State said in a statement Friday afternoon that running back LJ Scott will play against Indiana on Saturday and now has a valid driver’s license.

“In what has been a lengthy process, LJ Scott now has a valid driver’s license, free of any restrictions,” Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio said in a statement. “He has resolved the matter completely and has paid a price, both financially and publicly. His status will be affected for Saturday’s game, but he will play.”

It’s time for Michigan State running back LJ Scott to get his driver’s license situation figured out and not drive until he can legally do so again.

According to the Lansing State Journal, Scott was arrested Wednesday after his seventh traffic violation in the past two years. Scott was arrested for driving on a suspended license.

Scott, 21, was arrested and later released on a personal recognizance bond, East Lansing Police spokesman Lt. Chad Connelly said Thursday. He declined to comment further because Scott has not yet been arraigned.

The charge carries up to a year in jail if Scott is convicted because he has at least one prior conviction on the same charge, which is typically a 93-day misdemeanor.

All seven of the violations involve either driving without a license or driving on a suspended license and the first violation listed by the LSJ — where you should read the lengthy breakdown of all of Scott’s traffic issues — happened in February of 2016. He then had traffic issues in March, April and July of that year and March and July of 2017.

In many of those incidents, Scott ended up pleading guilty to different or lesser charges.

Scott is Michigan State’s leading rusher with 83 carries for 408 yards and three touchdowns. The Spartans host Indiana on Saturday.
