Michigan State basketball holds at No. 10 in coaches poll; Michigan gains votes

The men’s college basketball schedule during Christmas week was significantly limited, and that could again be the case in the upcoming week with numerous programs on pause due to COVID protocols. But a few results of note produced changes in the Ferris Mowers Coaches Poll.

The top three teams remain the same as Baylor is still the unanimous choice at No. 1. Duke follows at No. 2 with Purdue holding at No. 3. Gonzaga is now alone at No. 4 with UCLA rounding out the top five.

Kansas moves up to No. 6 as Arizona slips to No. 7 on the heels of its first loss of the season to No. 15 Tennessee. No. 8 Iowa State, slated to host Baylor this week, is No. 8. Southern California and Michigan State basketball, who defeated Oakland last week at Little Caesars Arena, hold steady to complete the top 10.

There wasn’t much room for upward mobility, as Tennessee’s four-position gain is the biggest of the week. Alabama takes the largest drop, falling eight spots to No. 19 after a loss to Davidson.

There were no new teams cracking the top 25 this week. Michigan basketball, who had its lone game last week canceled because of COVID-19 issues within Purdue Fort Wayne's program, had nine votes this week.
