Michelle Williams Welcomes Baby No. 2, Her First With New Husband Thomas Kail

Michelle Williams has started another exciting new chapter! The actress and activist secretly got hitched to her Fosse/Verdon director Thomas Kail back in March, and now the newlyweds have welcomed their first child into the world. As first reported by Us Weekly, Williams recently gave birth to baby No. 2 (she also has a 14-year-old daughter, Matilda, with late ex Heath Ledger).

As of right now, few other details are available and, knowing Williams’ fierce sense of privacy, they may remain a mystery for the foreseeable future. All we really need to know, though, is that mama and baby are reportedly both doing well right now. In January, a source underscored to Us just how much Williams and Kail were anticipating the arrival of their little one, saying, “They’re very happy and thrilled to be bringing a baby into the world.”

With the birth of the new baby, Williams’ daughter Matilda shifts from only child to big sister. But, considering she played “matchmaker” to bring Williams and Kail together, it’s probably a role she’s ready to tackle. Matilda, who was not quite three when Ledger passed away, reportedly enjoys a close relationship with Kail and has always shared a close bond with her mother.

Speaking to Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest in April 2019, Williams couldn’t resist gushing that things were going “so far, so good” in Matilda’s teen years. “Every morning, we wake up and I look to see if the transformation has happened and if it’s turned into the next level that I keep hearing about but, so far, we’re not there yet,” she shared. Sounds like she has a great built-in baby helper at home!

Previously, Williams was hitched to singer-songwriter Phil Elverum, whom she split from last April after less than a year of marriage. Kail was previously married to Angela Christian — it’s unclear when the two officially divorced.
