Michelle Williams Jokes That No One Recognizes Her From Destiny’s Child In New Ad Campaign

Michelle Williams jokes about her celebrity status in a new ad campaign for Uber One. Created for the Australian market, the vocalist deals with the unpleasant fact that, despite being a successful member of Destiny’s Child, one of the most acclaimed music groups of all time, she is virtually unrecognizable.

In the commercial, the 44-year-old takes a walk through Sydney’s Botanical Gardens, wearing a bold print suit and sleek white sunglasses. When she approaches the park bench, she removes the shades and takes a seat.

While she sits, waiting for someone to notice her, a man begins to yell out “Michelle.” The “Fire” performer excitingly prepares to greet a fan, however, it turns out he is talking to his chihuahua named Michelle, who had stolen a baguette from a group of park-goers.

She gets her hopes up again when the woman next to her asks if she is Michelle Williams, only to realize she had dropped her wallet and the stranger was simply returning it.

“I love visiting Australia,” shared the Grammy Award-winning artist in a press statement. “I love the savings I score on Uber One and I love the Aussie sense of humor so this campaign was fun for me.”

Williams’ commercial is part of an Uber One campaign launched earlier this year with tennis great Andre Agassi. According to the company, Australian audiences are set to see the comical ad in a series of bespoke assets for television, online video, outdoor media, linear and digital audio, and social and owned channels.

“Michelle Williams brings star power and great comedic timing throughout the hero film and supporting creative. Through her performance, she’s able to contrast the disappointment of being the ‘least favorite child’ with the joy of being an Uber One member,” detailed Uber Eats Brand Lead for Australia and New Zealand, Channa Goonasekara, per Mobile Marketing.
