Michelle Obama Tells Oprah Why It’s Important to Support Donald Trump

On Monday evening, CBS aired First Lady Michelle Obama Says Farewell to the White House: An Oprah Winfrey Special, in which Michelle and Oprah sat down to discuss everything from the recent election to glamping.

The first lady, like many Americans, was not pleased with the recent election — and not just the outcome. Michelle told Oprah, “This past election was challenging for me as a citizen to watch and experience; it was painful.” While Michelle didn’t like the election and definitely didn’t approve of Donald Trump’s “locker room” talk, she didn’t want to focus on the past but rather look forward and hope that the American people learn something from this election. The first lady told Oprah, “Words matter, and they matter most to our kids, our young people. And the words that we say moving forward, all of us, it matters, which is one of the reasons why Barack and I are so supportive of this transition.”

It’s not just the transition that the Obamas are supporting but Trump’s presidency as a whole. Michelle said, “We are going to be there for the next president and do whatever we have to do to make sure that he is successful, because if he succeeds, we all succeed.”

Part of Michelle’s support of Trump includes helping the next first lady, Melania. Michelle discussed her meeting with Melania, saying that she would be there for the new first lady any time she had any questions, adding, “The door is open, as I’ve told her, and as Laura Bush told me, you know, and as other first ladies told me.”
