Michael Kenneth Williams to star in IFC's 'The Spoils Before Dying'

Omar comin’ to IFC. IFC announced today that Michael Kenneth Williams will star in The Spoils Before Dying, a new six-part satirical miniseries from Funny or Die. The series will be executive produced by Anchorman masterminds Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, as well as Matt Piedmont, Andrew Steele, and Nate Young. Williams, who previously played your favorite characters from The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, will play “down-and-out pianist” Rock Banyon, who only has a few days to clear his name after his lover turns up mysteriously dead with another man.

“We’ve been spoiled by the talent we’ve been able to attract to this franchise,” IFC president Jennifer Caserta said in a press release. “We know Michael will bring the same swagger of his previous larger-than-life roles to this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore a dangerous world that was too hot for television.”

Ferrell will reprise his role from last year’s The Spoils of Babylon as Eric Jonrosh, the drunken author who opens and closes each episode. As with its predecessor, The Spoils Before Dying presents itself as a long-lost adaptation of one of Jonrosh’s novels, now being aired after decades because modern audiences can now handle such a risque mystery. Think of it like the dark, jazzy version of Serial you never expected, starring Omar and narrated by a drunken Will Ferrell.
