Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Travis Scott Cheer on Michigan in Luxury Box at College Football Championship

ESPN's announcers said the luxury box at NRG Stadium was "the place to be" during the game

One luxury box at NRG Stadium was “the place to be” Monday night.

Coming back from a commercial break in the third quarter of Michigan’s 34-13 win over Washington on Monday night, ESPN announcers Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit zeroed in on a skybox suite that sat some heavy hitting athletes and hit makers.

Michael Jordan, Derek Jeter, Stephen A. Smith, Travis Scott and more celebrities filled out the box, which was shown on the network’s broadcast of the NCAA National Championship football game.

“This is the place to be, look at this box!” Fowler said as the camera showed the suite. “There’s Michael Jordan up there, Derek Jeter in that white Michigan hoodie, Travis Scott over there on the right. Stephen A. found his way in there.”

Jordan could be seen smiling and laughing, and Jeter and Smith slapped hands and gave each other a hug, as Herbstreit responded with his own excitement.

"That’s the box to be in!” the color commentator said, listing off more celebrities standing around Jordan, Jeter, Smith and Scott. “They’ve got everybody in there.”

Jeter has long been a fan of University of Michigan sports teams, having grown up in nearby Kalamazoo, Mich. The former New York Yankees shortstop was also recruited to play baseball for the Wolverines, although he skipped college and joined the Yankees’ franchise directly out of high school.

Jordan played basketball at the University of North Carolina before getting drafted by the Chicago Bulls. Smith attended Winston-Salem State University, while Scott went to the University of Texas, whose football team lost to Washington in the College Football Playoff semifinal round last week.

Scott got to witness some version of revenge Monday night surrounded by several sports legends, watching Michigan run away with a 34-13 win over the Huskies to capture its first NCAA national championship since 1997.

The Wolverines’ win capped off a 15-0 season and players afterwards called the victory a “perfect ending” to its tumultuous season, which was marred by controversy off the field surrounding a sign-stealing scandal.

But none of that kept Michigan’s players, coaches, and fans from celebrating its long-awaited NCAA title.

On Instagram, former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady said he was “so proud” of this year’s Wolverines team. Brady, now 46, was the team’s backup quarterback behind Brian Griese in 1997 when Michigan last won the NCAA Championship.

“LFG @MichiganFootball!” Brady wrote on Instagram. “Go Blue. So proud of this team.”
