Michael Jackson Estate Settles Copyright Lawsuit With Disney and ABC

The estate of Michael Jackson has settled a 2018 lawsuit against the Walt Disney Company and ABC, according to court documents viewed by Pitchfork. The suit was over a TV special titled The Last Days of Michael Jackson, which the estate said used unauthorized material.

The complaint, originally filed in May of last year, claimed that the television program used copyrighted material without permission, including live footage, music videos, and many of Jackson’s hit singles such as “Beat It,” “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough,” “Billie Jean,” and more. Following the suit’s dismissal, “each party shall bear its own fees, cost, and expenses,” according to the documents.
