Michael J. Fox Teases Major Acting Career Update Amid Retirement

Michael J. Fox may not be done acting after all.

The 62-year-old award-winning actor recently reflected on his decades-long career while speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Michael J. Fox Foundation's A Country Thing Happened on the Way to Cure Parkinson's event on Tuesday, April 2, in Nashville.

During his chat, Fox was given another look at an interview he did with the publication 40 years ago. At the time, the then 20-something actor was amazed by the industry and all it had to offer, noting he wanted to "do it all," as in star, write, produce and direct.

When asked about his career in Hollywood and the current goals he's set for himself–both on the screen and off–Fox described that he had already accomplished most of them in so many words.

"My biggest goal, I think, was to raise a family. We have four amazing kids and that's been the big thing," Fox said, sweetly shouting out his wife, Tracy Pollan, whom he met on the set of Family Ties in 1985. "And then the other is with the foundation."

As for his acting career, he seems willing to write another chapter despite retiring in 2020–a new perspective he credited his 2023 documentary Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie with opening his eyes to.

"If someone offers me a part and I do it and I have a good time, great," the Back to the Future alum told the outlet. "I mean, the documentary was a big thrill."

Still, which was released on AppleTV+ last January, follows Fox and his ongoing battle with Parkinson's disease.

"It was fun," Fox said of making the film. "I never would have set that as a goal. It just happened."

Other things he's not willing to commit to as a "goal" but wouldn't turn down include acting–but with a stipulation.

"I would do acting if something came up that I could put my realities into it, my challenges, if I could figure it out," Fox said.

Four years ago, Fox announced he would be retiring from acting as his Parkinson's progressed, making his last on-screen role–not including his documentary–actually a Marty McFly cameo in a 2020 Lil Nas X music video, per IMDb.

Since then, Fox has remained dedicated to his foundation and branched out in entertainment, accepting work as a voice actor for the 2021 short Back Home Again and, of course, the making of his documentary.
