Michael Douglas Reveals He Asked Catherine Zeta-Jones to Tap Dance in Their Bathroom

Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones are dancing through life together.

Ahead of the 2019 SAG Awards on Sunday, The Kominsky Method actor, 74, and his wife opened up about their nearly 20-year marriage and reminisced about a particular memory from early in their relationship.

“When we first got together, I asked her to tap dance in our bathroom on the tile floor,” Douglas revealed to PEOPLE’s Jeremy Parsons on the red carpet.

“That was limited, because the marble got a bit scratched up!” Zeta-Jones, 49, jokingly chimed in.

The sweet story came after Zeta-Jones acknowledged how she has a dance studio in their home. Though Douglas doesn’t “put on the dance shoes too often,” he has no problem sitting back and admiring his wife perform.

“He likes to watch me tap dance every now and again!” the Welsh actress said.

“I watch her tap dance, anywhere and any place,” Douglas added. “I love to.”

In November, Zeta-Jones explained that having a “very open relationship” was key to their success.

“Both Michael and I have a very open relationship,” she said on TODAY. “When you have kids that didn’t ask to be born into a world where [the marriage is] scrutinized or looked into…” she continued. “You’ve got to be open and honest and share things that probably people at the drug store wouldn’t share over the counter.”

And Douglas echoed her sweet sentiments earlier this month, after winning big at the Golden Globes for best actor in a comedy series.

“We celebrated our 18th anniversary recently,” Douglas told reporters in the press room after his win, “and besides the genuine love that only continues to grow, I think the fact that we’re in the same industry really helps us to understand what is going on.”

“It was great for her to be here tonight and to share one of those nice things where your partner totally understands what’s going on,” he continued.
