Michael Douglas remembers 'Kominsky Method' co-star Alan Arkin: 'We lost a wonderful actor'

Michael Douglas shared a thoughtful tribute of late co-star Alan Arkin, his onscreen best friend in the "The Kominsky Method."

Arkin's representative Melody Korenbrot confirmed his death at 89 to USA TODAY on Friday.

"Today we lost a wonderful actor whose intelligence, sense of comedy and consummate professionalism over the past 70 years has left an indelible mark on our industry," the "Ant-Man" actor wrote in the caption of his Instagram post, a photo with the late Oscar winner. "My experience of working with Alan were some of my most memorable. He will be deeply missed."

Tributes from other stars have also come pouring in since the actor's death.

John Cusack, Billy Crystal remember co-star Alan Arkin

John Cusack, who worked with Arkin in several movies including "America's Sweethearts," recalled the first time he met the late actor on Twitter.

"Met Alan on bullets over broadway - I had some books with me - he said what you need is a proper satchel," Cusack wrote. "So he grabbed me and we walked around New York he showed me where to get a bag."

"I got one - now yr all set - We went to lunch and talked about everything under the sun. I was meeting a hero of mine - and he couldn’t have been kinder," the "Say Anything" actor added.

"Alan Arkin was one of our greatest actors," Billy Crystal said on Twitter, citing his time working with Arkin on "America's Sweethearts." "Hilarious, heartbreaking, and the ability to be terrifying, his range was amazing."

"Abbott Elementary" star Sheryl Lee Ralph also shared her thoughts on Arkin's death, tweeting, "I know we all die but some how I thought he’d live forever. RIP Mr. Alan Arkin."

"Better Call Saul" actor Michael McKean described how Arkin influenced him growing up.

"When I was a young actor people wanted to know if I wanted to be a serious actor or a funny one," McKean said in a tweet. "I'd answer 'Which kind is Alan Arkin?' and that shut them up."

"Rest in peace, Alan. Nobody better, ever," he added.

"#ripAlanArkin Such a wonderful, original voice for comedy," Jason Alexander wrote on Twitter. "And on the few occasions I was in his presence, a kind and generous soul. I learned so much from watching him."

Patton Oswalt shared four photos of Arkin from a range of roles on Twitter, writing "Did ANYONE have the range Alan Arkin had? Hilarious, sinister, insane, tragic. No mood he couldn’t live in."
