Michael Bublé has opened up about the mental health toll of his young son's liver cancer diagnosis – sharing that he even stopped singing in the shower.

The singer, 46, revealed he was a "wreck" in the years after it was revealed his eldest child Noah had a life-threatening condition back in 2016.

Speaking to the Sunday Telegraph about how he lost interest in music, he recalled: "I wasn’t even singing in the shower."

Putting his career on hold, he explained that his priority had been "taking care of my family and protecting my mental health".

Bublé – who also shares son Elias, six, and daughter Vida, three with wife Luisana – had initially thought he would never perform again, admitting that it "wasn’t even on my radar".

Although he returned to recording in 2018, he now realises that he was "still a wreck" and "there was no way I was ready".

The star added: "I always felt like I was Teflon, there was never a moment that could get the better of me."

With Noah, now eight, making a full recovery, he has decided to take positives from the experience.

Of one particularly tearful 2018 performance after his comeback, Bublé – who announced in February he is expecting his fourth child – said: "I came out, and oh my God, I was a mess.

"For the first time in my whole career, I couldn’t hide emotionally. But it was beautiful. I realised I didn’t have that protective mechanism any more. And I felt free.”

Speaking to Smooth Radio in December about his son's remission, he said: "He’s really good. It’s been almost five years. We still have the scans and the 'scanxiety'. You know what? I think he’s much better than we are.

"For him, you know, he’s this normal, little boy who knows that he’s a superhero, because Dad tells him all the time. But for Mom and I, even though we’re better, it’s definitely something that’s there."
