Michael Bublé Jokes He Microdosed Mushrooms During Hilarious NHL All-Star Press Conference: 'I Thought I Was in “Blades of Glory”'

While talking to reporters, the Grammy winner joked his friend was "lying" when he told him he was taking a "microdose"

The Grammy-winning singer, 48, took part in a 2024 NHL All-Star Game press conference, where he joked with reporters that he microdosed mushrooms before he hit the Scotiabank Arena ice for the All-Star Game mock draft in Toronto.

"My buddy told me this is just a microdose of mushrooms and he was lying," Bublé quipped on Thursday. "So, I'll be honest, I thought I was in Blades of Glory for most of the time that I was out there until it sort of settled down and then I realized, 'Holy s---, I am at the NHL All-Star Game.' "

Bublé's reference to the 2007 ice skating comedy came after he detailed his fantasy hockey knowledge and how it played a role in his picks as a celebrity captain. Responding to his elaborate answer, fellow captain Will Arnett took a playful jab at Bublé.

"It just occurs to be that through all the incredible songs that you've done over the years and all the hearts of women that you've won over around the world, with all that talk about fantasy hockey you lost them all in one sentence," Arnett, 53, joked. "It all just evaporated. Years of building it up, and it's just gone."

"The mushroom talk cost me all of my contracts, too," Bublé said, before Arnett asked reporters if they wanted to "follow up on the mushrooms."

The rest of the presser featured Bublé joking that there were "deals made" between captains behind the scenes and referring to himself as a "superstar" for being selected for Saturday's All-Star Game. Later that night, he appeared in a video shared to X (formerly known as Twitter) by analyst Steve “Dangle” Glynn, who asked the singer if he was really "on mushrooms while onstage."

"It was a joke," Bublé said. "Of course I wasn't! I'm sitting here at dinner. I do have a problem with bread."

Earlier this week, the "Haven't Met You Yet" singer caught up with PEOPLE about his role as a captain alongside the likes of Arnett, Tate McRae and Justin Bieber. He revealed that he was "thrilled to say yes to this opportunity" and joked that he was a “veteran” of the game, having been previously signed to a one-day contact by the Vancouver Canucks in 2011.

“I wish they would call me the ‘Great One,’ but they already use that for [Wayne] Gretzky, so I'll take the ‘Good One’ or the ‘Adequate One,’" he said.

Bublé added that "we’re like 12-year-olds getting to do this," referring to himself and Arnett. “This is like every kid’s dream... Are you kidding me? Every kid who loves the NHL,” he said.

The singer then explained, “Imagine you get to go and sit with the greatest players in the world. We get to be part of choosing the All-Star team that is going to be competing against each other? That’s crazy!”

The 2024 All-Star Game airs on ABC, ESPN+, Sportsnet, CBC and TVA Sports at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 3.
