Michael Bolton Reveals He Was Diagnosed With a Brain Tumor, Underwent Surgery

Michael Bolton revealed that he was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and will be taking a break from touring to recover from surgery.

The Grammy-winning singer shared on social media Friday, “I want to start by wishing everyone a very happy and healthy new year! I also want to share that 2023 ended up presenting me with some very unexpected challenges. Just before the holidays, it was discovered that I had a brain tumor, which required immediate surgery. Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success. I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.”

Bolton added he will be taking a “temporary break” from touring to focus his “time and energy” on recovery for the next few months.

“It is always the hardest thing for me to ever disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon,” the beloved singer wrote. “I am beyond grateful for all the love and support you have so generously shown me through the years. Know that I’m keeping your positive messages in my heart, and I’ll give you more updates as soon as I can. Much love always, MB.”

Bolton didn’t share how long he expected his break from performing to last, though he had several upcoming shows scheduled throughout the U.S. before heading to Europe in the spring.

Last year, the artist released two new albums, Spark of Light and Christmas Time. He previously told Billboard that he started writing songs for Spark of Light during the COVID-19 pandemic because he wanted to share something beautiful during difficult times.

“I felt a responsibility to help people feel a spark in their lives. Music is very powerful that way,” he told the outlet. “We’re all so humanly connected; we’re so in need of some light. That became the working theme every day: ‘How do we make [the music] make other people feel better?’”
