Metro Phoenix restaurants that closed recently include a gourmet burger joint and wine shop

Metro Phoenix restaurants fared better in November with thirty-five new restaurants opening and several restaurants receiving national attention. Esquire recognized two husband-and-wife owned downtown eateries among the best new restaurants in the U.S. Three Arizona restaurants made OpenTable's Top 100 list of 2023 and Phoenix was even on the cover of Wine Spectator’s great foodie travel destinations.

And the month wrapped up with only six closings. Phoenix said goodbye to a fancy burger joint in the West Valley, a wine shop and a hibachi restaurant downtown.

Here's a look at metro Phoenix restaurants that closed recently.

Aioli Gourmet Burger

Aioli Burger's restaurant on Seventh Street and Bell Road closed. The 32nd and Shea along with the Litchfield Park location (inside Fry's) remain open.

Hidden Track Bottle Shop downtown

Hidden Track's downtown location's bottle shop has closed, but the cafe at that location remains open. Owner Craig Dziadowicz decided to close the downtown bottle shop after noticing a shift in customer preference for their uptown location. "With the new hybrid work remote society that is now upon us many of our customers were not commuting downtown for work often anymore," he said. Dziadowicz has hired a new chef and launched a new menu for the uptown location. The menu is divided into tapas, like bread and spread or tea egg; conservas, like gar fish rillettes, a mousse dessert and flammekueche Alsatian tarte flambee.

Kream Coffee

Kream Coffee, the coffee stand inside For the People shop, announced the owner's decision to retire in a recent Instagram post. They will continue to offer their single origin coffee at Dialog downtown. The same post informed followers that Natasha John of Skoden Coffee, "a heartfelt collective that centers and celebrates Indigenous creatives," will take over the space on Dec. 4 with her coffee offerings.

Phoenix Hibachi House

In a Nov. 6 Instagram post, Phoenix Hibachi House at 1750 W. Van Buren St, announced it would "close until further notice." By the end of the month, the Instagram account no longer existed. Though the website is active, The Republic was unable to contact the restaurant during operating hours.

Then Burger

The Glendale speakeasy-style burger joint, home to a $36 Marrow and Mushroom burger, closed after less than a year. The restaurant opened in January 2023.

Winery 101

Winery 101 in Peoria closed its door on Nov. 27 after 15 years. After a few weeks of an "Inventory reduction sale," the owners Gavin and Irlyn Gallifant announced their retirement plan on social media. Turquoise Wine Cellar and Tasting Room is replacing Winery 101 with its second location.
